Torch Songs Concert

Outstanding jazz and blues band Torch Songs has a special connection with the venue they performed at tonight. Vocalist Carol Storey hails from Te Awamutu, and first performed with her future keyboardist partner Liam Ryan at The Woolshed in 1997. Following the performance they were gifted a brass candlestick by TALOS director Coral Taylor. This candlestick was the inspiration for the name "Torch Songs" and is displayed on stage whenever the band performs.

Carol and Liam are well-known in the district, often seen performing as a duo or in various musical combinations. Torch Songs is currently a six-piece featuring Wayne Melville (bass), Neil Reynolds (drums), Grant Mason (trumpet) and Dave Maybe (guitar).
