Rose & Cultural Festival 2003Number 8 Wire Competition

Finalist entries from the 2003 National Number 8 Wire Competition are on display at the Te Awamutu Museum until the 9th November. At the exhibition opening local artist Lynne Stone was announced as the winner with her piece "Landfall" (pictured below).

Wining Entry

Mrs Stone's work was constructed from wire and macrocarpa, and references the topographical drawings of Aotearoa done by early surveyors. It is also influenced by the story of Kupe's sighting of the land.

Second place went to Irene Wilcocks for "Wind Wand" (the tall piece pictured below left) and third was Regan Gentry for "Gilbert and Gentry" (the rugby ball).
