The traditional Anzac Parade from the RSA along Alexandra Street was followed by a Civic Commemoration Service at Anzac Green at 11:00am.

After a welcome and the National Anthem, various groups laid wreaths at the foot of the cenotaph. A poem from the College Head Boy and Girl was followed by a addresses from the mayor and RSA representatives, with hymns and prayers.

Te Awamutu Brass Band led the final parade of returned servicemen and other groups to the applause of the crowd.

Other events today included a dawn service at the War Memorial Park Sunken Cross, and services at Ohaupo Memorial Hall and Kawhia War Memorial.

Book Launch

The customary museum display was accompanied by the launch of a new book by museum director Roy Gould (pictured). The book is entitled "War Service, Life Saving & Coronation Medals of the Order of St. John".

An expert in military memorabilia, Mr. Gould has also been a member of St John for more than 30 years.

Copies of the book are available from the museum, with proceeds going to the "Friends of the Museum". Members of the public are also invited to take advantage of Mr. Gould's knowledge if they would like help identifying medals.
