The McDonald’s Junior Soccer Legends programme is open to soccer players throughout New Zealand aged five to 12. Each week, fans from around the country are invited to send in footage of some of the weekend’s best soccer moments, with one soccer star inducted into the Hall of Fame each week. The promotion started on April 7 for three weeks, with the grand draw announced on Classic Hits Network on May 7. All entrants from the three weeks went into the grand draw, won by Sarah. McDonald’s Junior Soccer Legends are televised after the sports news on both TV3 and TV One each Sunday. Sarah was seen on TV scoring a great solo goal for the Terriors. Te Awamutu junior soccer president Terry Glennister said he is very proud of Sarah’s achievement. “The $2000 she has won will help Te Awamutu junior soccer with clothing, practice balls, coaching, prizegiving and so on.” Kay Hale, executive producer of Classic Hits wishes Sarah’s team a ‘truly successful’ season ahead. “It’s been exciting to be part of a promotion encouraging junior soccer legends to come forward and try to win funding for their team,” said Ms Hale. “We’ve had an overwhelming response, and then to actually have a winner from Te Awamutu, was awesome.” Angela Rowland of Te Awamutu McDonald’s Family Restaurant congratulated Sarah and presented her with a special gift of McDonald’s goodies. Ms Rowland said her firm is proud to be actively involved in kids’ sport throughout New Zealand. “Last year McDonald’s helped more than 150,000 kids stay active through organised junior sport and its Active8 Club, featuring Sarah Ulmer, and recently launched a junior sport website: www.juniorsport.co.nz” Footage of any ‘soccer moment’ from around the country is welcome.
