A truck rumbles through the retail sector of Alexandra Street every minute, that’s official.

Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce president Chris Smith and chief executive Michael Cox surveyed the street for eight hours between 9am and 5pm Tuesday to gather information for their campaign to get the trucks out of town. They logged and photographed 471 trucks, that’s just one under 60 per hour, or one every minute.

There was no distinguishable difference between east and west bound trucks.

Stock trucks, often considered the most offensive in urban areas, totalled just 21 and almost 20% of the total (93) were milk tankers.

The chamber is maintaining its pressure on Waipa District Council to provide an alternative route to get the trucks out of town.
