Cranes working at Fonterra’s Te Awamutu factory site on Alexandra Street have dominated the local skyline in recent months. Work is progressing well on the installation of the two new dryers, which will help Fonterra achieve significant savings in operational costs.

As well as cutting the company’s energy bill, the new dryers fit in with Fonterra’s award-winning Energy Reduction Project - aimed at reducing energy use across the company by a combination of improved work practices and more energy-efficient equipment.

Food retailing businesses in the vicinity of the dairy factory have done a roaring trade, with up to 200 contractors involved in the project.
And the scene for drivers and pedestrians on Alexandra Street has at times seemed more like an inner city development site than a provincial town.

Fonterra project manager Dave Packer says work is progressing extremely well with the concrete slab buildings and everything is going to schedule for the start of pre-commissioning tests in March.
