Monster win for welder
Te Awamutu welder Darryl Haworth has had plenty to smile about recently.
The long-time Fly Buys Member, who has already been to Australia using his points, is one of two winners of Fly Buys Monster Rewards.
He had been telling his Stewart and Cavalier workmate Rene Van Niekerk about the benefits of Fly Buys for some time. A week before the end of the Monster Rewards promotion Mr Van Niekerk went online and joined up. Back at work he told his mate of over 12 years he was ‘in to win’ the big prize.
But when a team of people from Fly Buys and the media turned up at work it was to break the good news to Mr Haworth, and his mate was the first to congratulate him. In fact Mr Haworth says his congratulations was so boisterous another workmate thought they were having a fight.
His prize is definitely on the monstrous side, including a new Mitsubishi Colt Sport, two return business class airfares to London, a home entertainment package, $200 worth of groceries every week for year and more.
Mr Haworth says he’s looking forward to sharing his monster win, worth about $100,000, with friends and family.
“The prize I’ll enjoy the most will be the return business class tickets to London. I used to live there 14 years ago and two of my really good mates are still there. I haven’t decided who I’m going to take. I’m still enjoying the moment,” he says.
“I’ve already bought some nice books, and I’m looking forward to the home entertainment system. I’ll have to think carefully about the flowers and perfume,” he says.
Mr Van Niekerk says we definitely had something special to celebrate at the pub that night, and Darryl shouted the beers which was even better.
It is the second time Fly Buys has celebrated a Monster Reward. The first was won two years ago by a Dunedin family. This year’s promotion doubled in size to include two winners. The other Monster winner from was Diana Trow from Wellington.
