Friendship in fashion at College

Te Awamutu College teacher Vanita Sahay was helped to feel ‘right at home’ on Friday by her fellow female teachers.
Mrs Sahay, of Indian descent from Fiji, moved to Waikato six years ago. She has been at the College for four years and teaches maths and science.
Friday was Diwali Day, the Indian Festival of Light.
“It is a day for traditionally celebrating with friends and family,” she told the Courier. “It is normally a public holiday in Fiji. Since it fell on a school day here, I encouraged the other women teachers to join me by wearing Indian dress. Their response was superb,” she says.
The whole school staff also had the chance to sample Indian fare at morning interval.
