WHAT
IS CIVIL DEFENCE? |
Civil Defence is a
system of co-ordinating all available resources to assist the community in
an emergency. It's main aim is to help people and is only concerned with
property if it affects the welfare of people. |
WHO
IS CIVIL DEFENCE? |
Civil
Defence is co-ordinated by a Council Officer, but to work effectively it
must have the support from local community members prepared to help those
in need, in time of a disaster. |
WHEN
IS CIVIL DEFENCE NEEDED? |
When your local
community is affected by an event that the Police/Fire/Ambulance can't
handle without support, they will ask the Mayor to declare a state of CD
emergency. |
WHERE
IS MY LOCAL CIVIL DEFENCE POST? |
In the vast
majority of cases a CD co-ordinating centre will be established at nearest
school to the problem area. This is where to offer or request assistance. |
WHAT
CAN I DO TO HELP? |
People prepared to
help in any way if needed, can contact the Civil Defence Officer; they will then be put on to a contact list for each area. |
What You
Should Know |
Civil Defence needs a relatively small
number of people to take responsibility and assume leadership in an
emergency. But it needs everybody to understand that we are responsible
for our own safety and for those around us. The Neighbourhood Support
system, extended to include Civil Defence, is the best way to gain an
effective community response.
